Thanks so everybody for commenting. I look foward to writing some more detalied resonses to each of you soon, as well as my next entry. Uni is very demanding at the moment - I promise I'm not being lazy! LOL! I'm trying to prioritise uni at the moment! Look foward to "seeing" you soon, Cheers.

"I will ask the Father, and he will give another Counselor to be with you forever - the Spirit of truth" (John 14:16).

I was reminded today of one of the benefits of having a relationship with God: His gift of the Holy Spirit. The verse above describes the Holy Spirit as a Counselor.

It is with some trepidation I admit, sometimes in life I can have a propensity towards laziness. It was this issue the Holy Spirit put his finger on, when he inspired me to read the following verse in a new light.

"If a man is lazy, the rafters sag; if his hands are idle, the house leaks." Ecclesiastes 10:18

Many times in the Bible the word "house" is used as a metaphor to describe a person. In my low times I feel robbed of self-esteem, energy and confidence. In these times it is as if the joy of past success and happiness has "leaked" from my being. I believe the Holy Spirit was showing me that being lazy can cause me to have a leaking vessel.

Dear God, please help to avoid laziness!

Jesus said: "I will not abandon you as orphans - I will come to you." (John 14: 18).

Hi, welcome to my devotional blog. Some of you might know me from my haiku blog: "Life of a student teacher with kids".

Regretably I must confess, that as a parent, I often am either "too busy" or preocupied to be properly present with my children. In this sense I am sometimes guilty of abandoning them.

I have begun to learn that Christianity is more about devotion to a person, than simply a set of beliefs. Recently I have been making some small steps to develop intimacy with Jesus. I simply began to talk to him and tell him about my day, my worries and my joys. As I have done this, I have begun to know his presence and guidance. I had the thought that until now I have been living life as an orphan. It was so liberating, comforting and reassuring to know that I have the living Christ as a friend, guide and counsellor. I no longer need live like an orphan, but am free to live a life of continual communion with God. Tonight I read the Bible verse above and recognised its meaning and application in my life.

If you sometimes feel like an orphan in this world, than I encourage you to begin talking to Jesus. Be sensitive to his ever so gentle and humble voice and presence. It is a most beautiful experience when you begin to know him.

Thank God that we have a heavenly Father that will never leave us or forsake us.
