Jesus said: "I will not abandon you as orphans - I will come to you." (John 14: 18).

Hi, welcome to my devotional blog. Some of you might know me from my haiku blog: "Life of a student teacher with kids".

Regretably I must confess, that as a parent, I often am either "too busy" or preocupied to be properly present with my children. In this sense I am sometimes guilty of abandoning them.

I have begun to learn that Christianity is more about devotion to a person, than simply a set of beliefs. Recently I have been making some small steps to develop intimacy with Jesus. I simply began to talk to him and tell him about my day, my worries and my joys. As I have done this, I have begun to know his presence and guidance. I had the thought that until now I have been living life as an orphan. It was so liberating, comforting and reassuring to know that I have the living Christ as a friend, guide and counsellor. I no longer need live like an orphan, but am free to live a life of continual communion with God. Tonight I read the Bible verse above and recognised its meaning and application in my life.

If you sometimes feel like an orphan in this world, than I encourage you to begin talking to Jesus. Be sensitive to his ever so gentle and humble voice and presence. It is a most beautiful experience when you begin to know him.

Thank God that we have a heavenly Father that will never leave us or forsake us.

Thanks for reading my first entry!

Well, I literally am an orphan, Tim, and I can personally attest to the Fatherhood of God!

I love this idea for a blog. I'll be checking in often.

Hi Aurora,

Thanks for checking in, I'm so glad you will be coming back. I think God has a special place in his heart for orphans: It is great that you have experienced the Fatherhood of God.

Hi Tim
I am inspired by the initiative you show in doing things like this. I am hoping to suck up the discipline to get some thoughts out soon too. I feel a bit vulnerable making public comments but I am pretty determined to give this challenge to myself.
Your comments about fatherhood reminded me about the conversations I have had with my daughter about the Trinity. I say this because I wonder what the diference is between fatherhood and brotherhood - within the God head is our father God(I Am), our brother savior (Christ Jesus) and our counsellor and enabler (Holy Spirit).
Do you think there is a difference between relating to the father or to the Son or to the Spiri? They are one but also seperate. Do we fellowship with them all at once while specifically mentioning just one or are we called to fellowship with the father through the Son by the holy Spirit (and in this case do we relate to Jesus by going through him to the father?)
I suppose this kind of questioning is in me because I reckon the best way to test if one knows their theology or their relationship with God, is to explain concepts like the trinity to a seven year old. I have found it surprisingly challenging and blown away by the quality of Jasmines questions.
Bless ya mate
Geoff

Andrew - Thanks for dropping in, I'm glad you liked the post and are looking foward to the next one - I hope you enjoy!

Geoff, Thanks for your comments. Wow! I need to think some more about your questions! I don't think I have alot of answers here, but I do feel a difference when relating to Father God, Jesus and the Hoyl Spirit. For example I pray to God the father for provision and I pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance. How all this works theologically baffles me!!!
Thanks for dropping in mate, I look foward to seeing you soon.
